  3. Early Career • Is a shoemaker and teacher • Completed his education at Haverhill Academy • Edits various newspapers • Seeks political job

  4. Poems • First published set of poems in 1838. • Publishes “Songs of Labor” – 1840 • Publishes “Home Ballads” – 1860 • Publishes “Snow Bound”, his masterpiece, in 1866 • Publishes many more poems

  5. Death • Dies on December 7, 1892 at Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. • Buried on family plot at Amesbury.
