My definition of poetry:

Underlying purpose

A great deal is said

Imagination put into words

slide4
My experience with poetry:

Music

Song lyrics

Stories

slide5
How my poem came to be:

My very own doll friends

slide6
The poor little thing sat all alone in the corner

Seams split under the arms from holding hands on long walks

And ring-around-the-rosy with her much taller friend

Where had she gone?

Her constant companion who clutched a little too tight

When the crack of thunder bullied its way into the room

slide7
Traces of makeup on her cupie doll face

Shabby hair

Cut haphazardly by tiny unskilled hands

A dirty foot shows wear because of a long lost shoe

Many days spent watching cartoons

Is there nothing left? Where had she gone?

slide8
Tea parties, mud pies, and trips to the park

Hiding under the covers from scary dreams

Stains, tears and scars

She calls them beauty marks

From times so far away

Where had she gone?

What about me?

slide10
Can you find evidence of

Alliteration?

The poor little thing sat all alone in the corner

Seams split under the arms from holding hands on long walks…

Her constant companion who clutched a little too tight

When the crack of thunder bullied its way into the room

What about

personification?

Her constant companion who clutched a little too tight
