  1. Let the Children Come Matthew 19:13-15

  2. Introduction • Completely misinterpret • Being a kid in Rosedale, New York

  3. Children in Jesus’ day • Children were loved by their parents but treated different than western parents did • Kids did not receive training in manners or cleanliness • Kids played in the streets • Kids got dirty

  4. Entertaining honorable guests • Sweep the house • Send the children out of the house • Why? Embrassment by what they might say, noisy, dirty. • Entertaining a holy man guest • Fathers brought their sons to be blessed by the holy man.

  5. Jesus said • He was a holy man • Therefore, bring the boys to Him for blessings

  6. For us Today • Children do not have paradigms about “how things should be” • Adults who do not attend church as kids do not have church paradigms • A way to rebild the church is to ask these adults why they joined and attend church
