  7. For Us Today • “JESUS LIKES RICH PEOPLE WHO OBTAINED THEIR WEALTH FROM GOD AND USES A PART OF IT TO HELP THE POOR”

  9. What is the original intent of Jesus’ interaction with the Rich Man? Culture of Rich men • Two types • One who is blessed by God and builds wealth through his/her work • One who is greedy and wicked thus obtaining wealth by cheating and oppressing the poor • Biblical examples, Nathan and David, Ahab and Naboth

  10. What is the original intent of Jesus’ interaction with the Rich Man? Strange Custom: Rich men became government officials; more wealth higher position • For example, Matthew was a tax collector

  11. Rich Man and Jesus is a one on one conversion not meant to be universally applied The rich man wanted to work for the Kingdom of Heaven He needed to leave his occupation • Elisha sacrificed his ox and destroyed his plough, he was a farmer, to become Elijah’s apprentice

Wealth can be a distraction, so rich people need to be on their guard constantly
