Custom Home Design Trends For 2021 Every year there are new and exciting trends to keep abreast of, and the housing industry is no different. Although most people that are entering the housing market are simply buying existing properties, or even just renting, some are fortunate enough to be able to make a lifelong investment by designing their own home from scratch and building it from the ground up. The year 2020 saw unprecedented events rock the global population to its core. It was a time of unease and worry, and many people were forced to alter their lifestyles, some of them for good. The year 2020 was one of incredible change, and it showed us how adaptable we are as humans. Although frightening and worrisome, 2020 showed us that we can take everything in our stride, adapt, and come out on the other side stronger than before. As it did everything else, the year 2020 and the pandemic also made an impact on people’s homes and how they see their homes. Due to lockdowns and people urged to spend less time out and about and amongst other people, it became customary for the majority of the population to spend a lot of time at home. Although the pandemic has since eased in many countries, and life has returned to some state of normal, there are still many companies that are looking at allowing their employees to work from home. Of course, this type of situation spilled into the design trends anticipated for 2021. The first design trend for custom homes for 2021 is that of high-end workspaces and offices being incorporated into the home from the get-go. Although most homes with enough square feet of space will have some sort of study included, it will become a trend to have a very well-equipped office or workspace designed from the start. This is because the world of work is changing and we can expect more and more people to start working from home. The second trend is, understandably, also connected to the pandemic and we anticipate that it will spill over well into 2021. This is the inclusion of flexi-spaces in the home that can be used for a variety of activities. This is particularly useful if there are adults that are spending time working from home. The flexi-space can be regarded as a type of studio and it can be utilized as anything, from an at-home yoga studio to unwind after a long day, to a library to cuddle up with a good book and relax, or even a playroom for the children to keep them occupied while the caregivers are trying to focus on their work.
The last trend is the adoption of bold and bright color hues into the home. At the end of last year, there was an increase in the purchase of bright paints for home décor, and it can be due to the fact that spending long hours cooped up in one space can be quite depressing. Bright and bold colors and exciting paint designs as well as the inclusion of statement or focus walls can liven the mood inside the home and it can be anticipated that this trend will be around for the rest of 2021. The pandemic may have brought the world to its knees, but it resulted in some very exciting and fresh home design ideas that we can expect to become trends in the housing market over the next couple of months. Home design is evolving every year, and those that are entering the housing market and thinking of designing their home will do well to stay on top of the current trends as this will only improve the market value of their home down the line.
