  1. Subtask 3- FISSION MODELS - Participants: GSI, JYU, KhRI, USC Task leader: Karl-Heinz Schmidt (k.h.schmidt@gsi.de)

  2. Fission • Best production mechanism for neutron-rich nuclei in the mid-mass region

  3. Difficulties • Fission is very complex process – influence of the entrance channel (e.g. kind and energy of projectile), nuclear structure (e.g. shell effects, collective enhancement, pairing), viscosity of nuclear matter ... • Theoretical models are generally not precise enough. • Semi-empirical models have a limited predictive power, especially far from regions covered by experiment. Therefore, thebenchmarking of fission models against available data and their improvement is a major task.

  4. Description of work • Computing code of JYFL fission model. • Improved version of the PROFI code (for nuclide production in fission) and of the code ABLA, and validation of the ABLA-PROFI code system with spallation-fission and fragmentation-fission data • Comparing and benchmarking the Jyväskylä and GSI/Santiago fission models for nuclide production in fission including dissipation. • Revised fission-model codes.

  5. What is to be done? • M3.1 - JYFL fission model results (month 5) • M3.2 - GSI/Santiago fission model results (month 12) • M3.3 - Validation and improvement of codes (month 29) D3 - Validation and improvement of codes report
