This registration information is for rising seniors at Chatham Central High School. Topics of discussion include graduation requirements, promotion requirements, early graduation/dismissal, and registration information. Students will receive handouts with registration sheets, graduation requirements, and college & career promise requirements. Registration begins on March 1st and will be done individually through 3rd period classes.

Registration Handouts • Today you received a two-sided Registration sheet. • Graduation Requirements sheet. • College & Career Promise requirements sheet. • The curriculum guide with course descriptions & prerequisites can be found on our school’s website on the Counseling Services webpage under the Registration Tab. Please ask a teacher or myself if you have a course question.

  14. Chatham County Requires an additional 6 Electives Totaling 28 credits to get a high school diploma.

  15. Promotion Requirements To be promoted to the 12th Grade, you must pass 20 Classes by the end of this year. Chatham County Schools does not do mid-semester promotions.

  16. Early Graduation/Dismissal • Early Graduationis for rising seniors who have never failed a course. You will take four classes first semester & none 2nd semester. You will not get your high school diploma until June. You may still participate in the prom or any other senior activities 2nd semester. It is your responsibility to keep up w/ info. given to seniors. Early Dismissal is for students in good academic standing. You may leave after 3rd block 2nd semester only. • You must complete an Early Graduation/Dismissal form from Mrs. Kivett. • No students will be approved for Early Graduation or Early Dismissal until final grades are reported from your Junior year in June. Therefore, all students will register for 8 classes.

  17. Honors & AP Classes • All students may register for any of the Honors or AP coursesin the course catalog. If you have never taken an honors course and are uncertain if you can handle it, please consult your teacherin this subject area. • AllHonors/AP English Courses requires a Summer Reading Packet. You may get them from an English teacher or on our the Counseling Office webpage on our school’s website under the Registration tab. The Reading Packet is to be turned in to your English teacher theFIRST DAY of school no matter which semester you have English.

  32. CTE Internships • Students may register for an internship after successfully completing any second-level Career Technical Education class in Grades 11 & 12. • Students earn wages andhigh school credit through the internship program.

  34. NC High School to Community College Articulation Agreement The NC Dept. of Public Instruction and the NC Community College System have a statewide articulation agreement in which students may be eligible to receive college credit after completion of identified Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses in high school. This creates a systematic and seamless process in which students can move from high school to community college without having to duplicate efforts or repeat courses.

  35. Criteria to Award Articulation Credit • Grade of B or higher in the course, and • A score of 93 or higher on the standardized CTE Post assessment In other words, if you meet the criteria listed above in selected high school classes, they can count toward your community college degree.

  37. Career & Technical Student Organizations Provide leadership opportunities, communication skills, competitive events, character, citizenship, technical leadership, and teamwork skills. They enhance students civic awareness and provide opportunities for developing social competencies. They promote a wholesome attitude about living and working. Activities are directly related to the course blueprint objectives.

  38. National Technical Honor Society Student must have an unweighted avg. of 3.25 GPA and complete a second level CTE course. Students must also be a member in good standing in a CTSO.   39. Career & College Promise Community College Classes for High School Students

  40. Career & College Promise Classes: Community College Online Classes that will Transfer to all UNC Universities and almost all Private Universities. Community College classes that are aligned with a CTE Pathway in order to give you Community College credit. Both classes will also give you high school credit.

College & Career Promise – Taking Community College Classes During High School • Must be a Junior or Senior • College Transfer Classes requires a 2.8 Unweighted GPA or meet College Readiness Benchmarks on the PSAT, SAT, PreACT, or ACT exam • CTE Pathway Options requires a 2.8 Unweighted GPA or School Approval • All Classes will give you high school & community college credit • College Transfer Classes will transfer to all UNC systems & most private schools through their articulation agreement. • Some College Transfer Classes will also meet high school graduation requirements.

  43. CCCC College Transfer Classes • The College Transfer courses will be taught on-line in the computer lab. You will take up to two online courses during a class period. • These classes count as an honors class. Therefore, you will receive one extra grade point towards your high school GPA. • They will transfer to any college as long as you have a 70 or higher. • A complete listing can be found on the back side of page 1 of your Registration Sheet.

Prerequisites Can be Found in the Course Guide on the Registration Tab of the School Counseling Services webpage. • ENG 112 Argument-Based Research College Credit: 3 semester hours • Prerequisite: ENG 111 • This course, the second in a series of two, introduces research techniques, documentation styles, and argumentative strategies. Emphasis is placed on historical developments and their impact on the modern world through religion, politics, economics, and social developments. Upon completion, students should be able to compare and contrast western and non-western cultures. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA and ICAA as a general education course in English Composition.

Timeline for Registration • Registration through 3rd period classes starts Friday, March 1st in Mrs. Albright’s room. • TURN IN REGISTRATION SHEETS TO YOUR 3rd BLOCK TEACHERS BEFORE March 1stwith your signature & your parent’s signature completed. • We will hand out registration schedules beginning with seniors first this summer. You will be able to make changes when schedules are ready to be picked-up August 12th & August 14th. • During schedule pick-ups, students may ask for “Wanna”changes.
