  5. Making Your Course Selections LISTEN to your counselors today READ registration handbook ASK questions TALK with your teachers and other students (especially sophomores and juniors) THINKabout your plans after high school

  6. How do I attain senior status? Must earn 15 credits by the start of the 2012-13 school year Know how many credits have you attained after 5 semesters-review your transcript Pass your classes second semester-earn additional credits Consider summer school opportunities to make up credit (2011/2012 credit recovery will be pass/fail) Graduation = 21 credits minimum

  15. Why is there a deadline for changing course requests? May I change my course requests after the deadline (April 20th)? ONLY IF: You need other course to meet graduation requirements You fail a prerequisite course You complete a course in summer school You have selected a course that will not be offered due to low enrollment

How do I earn college credit by taking AP courses? • Take the AP exam and score 3-5 • Check AP credit policy by college/university (www.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy) • Students pay for AP exams (about $87.00 per exam) • AP Exam Fee Reduction available to qualifiers • If students do not take the exam, their final course grade will be reduced by one letter grade

  36. When can I access bus transportation to and from the Career Center? • The transportation schedule for the Career Center has not yet been determined. You will be contacted when more information is available. Students who need bus transportation typically need to take 3 class periods at the Career Center. • Talk with your parent about what transportation needs you may have next year and share them with your counselor during your registration meeting.

  37. Where is the Career Center? 910 Highland Court Winston Salem, NC 27101 Students who drive themselves will be required to have a Career Center parking permit. More details to come.

  38. Besides AP, which courses can earn college credit? • Dual Enrollment courses • Forsyth Tech • Salem College • Wake Forest • Winston-Salem State University Students who wish to pursue Dual Enrollment courses need to speak with their counselor prior to enrolling in order to receive written approval. Students are responsible for tuition charges, books, and transportation for Dual Enrollment courses. Page 8

North Carolina Virtual Public School • Online courses at school and/or home • When courses are not available locally • When courses conflict prohibits course enrollment • When illness or injury causes student to be homebound • Academically motivated learners skilled in the areas of responsibility and self-regulation • Strong reading and writing skills • Basic computer skills necessary • Course enrollment must be approved by principal • Enrollment does not shorten school day Page 11
