Differences between GATE and SAS • GATE has 6 areas of identification • Intellectual – Ravens Test k-12 • Specific Academic 4 grade and above • Creative Ability – 4-12 • Leadership Ability 4 -12 • Visual and Performing Arts 2-12 drawing, painting, dance, drama, voice. • High Achievement – 4-5 - OLSAT (2nd Grade) • 2 current consecutive years of scoring advanced on CST in both language arts and math. (450 and 455)
SAS • Another educational option • Teachers share best practices. • Increased Identification • Differentiation • High expectations for GATE identifications –OLSAT 3/12-3/13 and intellectual testing today. More applications being submitted. • Students demonstrate all 4 critical thinking areas and problem solving skills. • Teacher recommendation
GATE students will remain in the program until they graduate from high school. • SAS students remain in the program as long as they stay in an SAS school that they were accepted to. • Once SAS students matriculate, they have to reapply to other schools. • Both can apply to Gifted/High Ability Magnet Centers.
