Netezza Snowflake

Ready-to-use data delivered to Amazon S3, Amazon Redshift, and Snowflake at lightning speeds with BryteFlow data management tool. This automated tool is completely self-service, low on maintenance and requires no coding. It can integrate data from any API and legacy databases like SAP, Oracle, SQL Server, and MSQL.

  1. Migrating Database from Netezza to Snowflake Before going into the process of migrating the Netezza database to cloud-based Snowflake data warehousing solution, an analysis of the two will be in order.  Netezza Netezzawas the first database warehouse appliance in the world launched in 2003 and has maintained this position for a decade. In 2006, it became the first 100TB data warehouse application followed by becoming the first petabyte data warehouse application in 2009. Its patented hardware acceleration process can handle analytic queries at massive scale and lightning speeds.

  2. Various versions of Netezza are Skimmer, TwinFin, Striper, and Mako, each with value-added features. These include doing away with the need for indexing and partitioning of data, an in-built optimization for data warehouse and analytics, simplified management, and data pruning.  With all these top-of-the-line benefits, why would organizations want to shift databases from Netezza to Snowflake?

  3. Snowflake The cloud revolution saw IBM withdrawing support to Netezza and stopped releasing any hardware after 2014. Cloud computing has several distinctive benefits concerning servers, storage, databases, and networking and provides high-performing flexible resources and economies of scale. Cloud-based database solutions are affordable and provide cheap and unlimited storage, increased security, scalability, speed of deployment, and disaster recovery management.

  4. Migrating data from Netezza Snowflakeis hence a much-preferred option as Snowflake is the only data warehouse built for the cloud. It has separated computing from storage, and users can scale in either of them independently, paying only for the quantum of resources used.

  5. Snowflake also has exclusive multi-cluster shared data architecture with many value propositions. These are zero management, all data both structured and semi-structured in one place, unlimited access by multiple users simultaneously to multiple applications without any lag in performance, seamless data sharing, and many others.

  6. Migrating data from Netezza to Snowflake There are two ways that data can be migrated from Netezza to Snowflake. Which one is selected by an organization depends on various factors such as the number of data sources for migration, timescale, types of data, and future operational requirements. · Lift and shift approach – There are several factors that determine why businesses should opt for the lift and shift approach. Some of them are timescale pressures to move quickly away from Netezza or the need to migrate a single standalone and independent data mart. Enterprises that require migration of highly integrated data across the existing data warehouse or have well-designed data and processes using standard ANSI SQL will find this lift and shift approach useful. · Staged approach – This method is particularly helpful for businesses that –  Require re-engineering of crucial data and processes within the data warehouse because of lag in performance. Not Focused on reworking legacy process but rather on new development New ELT, BI, and data visualization tools are required along with a change to the existing data ecosystem Choose the method with care before migrating a database from Netezza to Snowflake
