  7. Jaume Plensa (Spanish, 1955) "The Heart of Trees" consists of several seated self-portraits of the artist, cast in bronze, with his arms and legs wrapped around living trees. The artist's hope is that the trunks of the trees will eventually grow into the figures so each truly exists as one

  9. Jaume Plensa (Spanish, 1955) The Heart of Trees The physical act of embracing is often seen in the artist’s work and reflects his desire to connect with people and to reassert the importance of touch

  10. “I specially covered or tattooed all these figures with names of composers. Seven notes so  seven portraits. Musicians also have a tremendous capacity to transform things into a very abstract material, into untouchable things like energy or the soul.” Jaume Plensa (Spanish, 1955) The Heart of Trees

  11. French company New Wind has created a wind "turbine" in the shape of a tree. It's designed for parks, homes, businesses and other small-scale applications. The "leaves" harness wind energy even at low winds and don't make noise. We can't wait for these trees to be available commercially for use at homes worldwide Traffic Light Tree, London, UK

  23. The Tree was conceived as a salutation to “the God above the universe” referred to in the quotation from Shiller’s “Ode to Joy” which is inscribed on a plaque at the base of the sculpture. The Tree is also a Bauhaus-styled metaphor for the Tree of Life, with its blossoming fruit held heavenward and the piece-mold segments at its base (used to cast the spheres) representing the shells of the celestial fruit. Fittingly, 2019 is also the centennial of the founding of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany in 1819. Karl Momen (Swedish, 1934) “The Tree of Utah”

  24. Karl Momen (Swedish, 1934) “The Tree of Utah” The tree's six spheres are all coated with natural rock and minerals found within the state of Utah, and the pods below symbolize the changing of the seasons, when trees naturally transform themselves
