2. Government Affairs:NTTC’s Federal Friends I had a slick little slide going here right up until I couldn’t use the same pattern, but this should still give you a decent snapshot on the varied federal agencies that make the rules for the tank truck carriers.
What’s interesting – and sometimes frustrating from our view – is the duplication of rule making groups sometimes even within the same cabinet level department.
And there are way more federal agencies involved that I could have put on here too.
Suffice it to say, there are a lot of chefs in our kitchen.I had a slick little slide going here right up until I couldn’t use the same pattern, but this should still give you a decent snapshot on the varied federal agencies that make the rules for the tank truck carriers.

13. The Executive Committee accepted and the Board of Directors approved a new size and weight policy for the association. The policy was developed by a committee of carriers from all segments of the industry. The new policy reads:
A. Seek a 10% axle and gross weight tolerance for tank trailers and dry bulk trailers for the tank truck industry. This would be similar to the legislation sought by the auto-haulers and supported by American Trucking Associations policy;
B. Seek legislation to eliminate the freeze on truck size and weight imposed by Congress in 1991 and allow carriers to work on innovations on a state-by-state basis;
C. Support size and weight uniformity in the Western states;
D. Conduct research to determine what modifications could be made to existing trailers to increase trailer productivity within the current bridge formula by trailer type; and
E. Conduct research to determine what could be done to increase trailer productivity in
new trailers by trailer type using the existing bridge formula.
This revised policy is intended to give NTTC members a “seat at the table” as this important issue is debated within the Congress and within the trucking industry. The political reality is that we will not likely see any consideration of truck size and weight until Congress decides to address highway reauthorization.
