  3. Create a study schedule • Study in small chunks • The same time every day • Study becomes habitual, easier Budget your time

  4. Set a time goal for assignments • Keep a record of goal-setting • Document successes Goal-setting

  5. Divide assignment into units • Set time-goals for each unit • Helps reduce daydreaming Set short-range goals

  6. Find a place to study • Reasonably quiet • Minimal distractions Study environment

  7. Keep pencil & paper handy • Something needs to be done? • Write it down & continue studying Keep a reminder pad

  8. Cramming does not work! • Think preview & review • Before class: review notes, reading • After class: review notes • Repetition saves time! Don’t procrastinate!

  9. Practice: Read newspaper headlines • Scan TOC (front of books) • Scan headings in chapters • Scan glossary (back of books) • Preview before class • Review after class Learn to identify important information

  10. Watch your thoughts • Bring your mind back • “Where ever you are, be there!” Learn to focus

  11. Use a symbol related to study • Scarf, hat, or figurine • Use a ritual to get started • Tells your mind it’s time to get to work • Use your symbol for studying only Aids for concentration

  12. Stand up and face away from books or assignment • Stop at the end of each page you are reading and count to 10 Mind wandering?

  13. Break book anxiety • If you are relaxed, anxiety dissipates • Associate books with relaxation • When you study, study • When you worry, worry Learn to relax
