  1. Sermon • Emojis from the Psalms • Psalm 27 - Praying our Fears

  2. Ernest Becker "I think taking life seriously means, whatever you do must be done in the truth of the evil and terror of life, of the rumble of panic underneath everything. Otherwise it is phony. Underneath the glitz of life is the rumble of panic.

  3. 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.

  4. 4 One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. • 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

  5. 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.

  6. 7 Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. 8 My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior

  7. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. 11 Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.

  8. 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and He will strengthen your heart; Wait on the Lord

  9. WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR FEARS: • Acknowledge your fears – they can’t be transformed until they are known and admitted

  10. Fear faced is a heart exposed. The stronger the fear, the greater the clarity regarding the object of our fear. Fear clarifies by exposing who and what we serve. Fear relates to the potential death of our agenda – creating a world as close to Eden as possible. (Dan Allender)

  11. Struggle with your worry – this is the opposite of “simply trust Jesus and your troubles will disappear.” • Pray your fears before the throne of God with an open Bible. • THERE IS NOTHING OF ETERNAL VALUE THAT THE WORLD CAN TAKE AWAY FROM YOU.

  12. FOUR steps out OF FEAR • “Get a foothold or a handhold” • - Make God YOUR REFUGE • WE DON’T HAVE TO FEAR, BECAUSE JESUS TOOK ON HIMSELF WHAT WE SHOULD FEAR

  13. Relocate Your glory • DON’T WASTE YOUR FEAR; IT IS A SIGNAL TO RELOCATE YOUR GLORY. • The process of sanctification rests entirely on our ability to see life from the basis of one question. • WHAT IS GOD DOING IN THIS?

  14. FOCUS YOUR DESIRE 27:4 • In the path of your judgments, O LORD, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. (Isaiah 26:8 ESV) • All our problems, fears, and worries reveal or reflect the focus of our worship.

  15. -PUT YOUR FAITH IN FUTURE GRACE – v. 13-14 • Psalm 27 gives us the footholds and handholds… • Believe and WAIT • Waiting is the workshop of the Holy Spirit.

  16. God won’t turn His back on us because He turned his back on Jesus.
