  2. Activate Your Brain What comes to your mind when you think of the word college? What skills are important? What do you think of when you think of the word career? What skills are important?

  3. Getting from here to there This program is like a subway. The destination is college and career. However, just like on a subway, people get on at different places, sometimes get off and on along the way, and maybe have different destinations.. . Where are you headed? Get out your phone and get ready to take a poll.

Objectives, Vocabulary, and Notes Page • Lesson 1 • By the end of class you will be able to: • Navigate a syllabus • Consider what the details in a paragraph have in common in order to identify the main idea • Identify details which support a main idea • Today’s vocabulary: • Syllabus: a document which provides a summary outline of a college (or high school) course • Job growth: new jobs being created that did not exist previously

  6. Three Steps for Finding Main Idea 1. Read the paragraph, article, or chart 2. Consider the details mentioned 3. Ask what theme, idea, or topic the details have in common….this will be the main idea of your reading. • Let’s practice……
