  2. During the dig Artifacts should be handled with care Field conservation in some cases is necessary. The basic rue is to avoid further damage and contamination. Maintain provenience at all stages of recovery.

  3. Artifacts recovered during excavation are given minimal cleaning. Usually artifacts are bagged as is and not cleaned.

  4. Whether found in situ or in the screen, artifacts are treated the same.

  5. Some artifacts require special attention.
