  1. A PROPOSAL AND EXAMINATION OF A NEWLY GUIDANCE METHOD IN INDOORS Takao Yanagihara Kinki University Faculty of Science and Engineering Ken Kuwahata KuwahataDesign Office Co., Ltd. Yoshiaki Hara Researcher Hyogo Institute Assistive Technology

  2. Introduction

  3. The previous research • Nakamura et al.(2008,2009) • The result showed that even in the case of lower dot-shaped TWSIs as 3.4 mm height and bar-shaped TWSIs with 2.4 mm height, the detectability of them are similar to 5.0 mm height of TWSIs compliant with the JIS.

  4. The subject of previous research Kuge et al. (1999) To examine the height of steps which have been the cause of the stumble, analyzed walking characteristics of elderly people. The result showed that the height of steps should be less than 2.4 mm.

  5. Purpose of the research • Reducing barriers of TWSIs • Maintaining the function of TWSIs. • The purpose of this study is to develop TWSIs having 2 mm height or less.

  6. Target of this study • Indoor has little hazards compared with the outdoors. • Floors of indoor is comparatively flat. • TWSIS is not installed in the building well.

  7. Warning patterns (diameter 20mm) (30mm) (40mm) 50cm 50cm Square grid Staggered row Height 1mm、2mm

  8. Guiding patterens 50cm 25cm Height 1mm、2mm

  9. Subjects Visual Impairments total 25 people

  10. Detection experiment1,2 (Warning patterns) Detection experiment 1 Detection experiment 2

  11. Detection experiment3,4(Guiding patterns) 10m Detection experiment 4 Detection experiment 3

  12. Result Detection experiment1~4 (diameter 20mm) (30mm) (40mm) Staggered row

  13. Detection experiment 5 Guiding pattern: 1,2,3 lines Height: 1mm,2mm Warning patterns Arrangement:staggered row Height:1mm, 2mm Diameter:20mm,30mm

  14. Result(Detection experiment 5)

  15. CONCLUSION • In order to secure the detection rate of 90% or more, two or one lines are needed. • However, in the experiment 3-4, the number of bars has good evaluation of three lines. • Best combination is • Guiding patterns is 2 mm height and 2 line • Warning pattern is staggered row and 2 mm height , and 20 mm and 30 mm diameter

  16. (30mm) (diameter 20mm) Height 2mm 幅(30mm)

  17. Thank You for Your Attention
