  2. Immigration Reminders! • Carry copies of your documents with you! • Contact our office with: • Address/Telephone Number Changes • Major Changes • Travel (I-20 signature needed!) • Do not let your I-20 Expire!! • All Transfer-in Students must meet with Mr. Sanford to receive a new I-20

Immigration Reminders • Employment: • You can work ON-campus (upon arrival) • You cannot work OFF-campus • Maximum of 20 Hours/Week • Check with our office before accepting any kind of employment or doing any kind of internship (must be after 1 full academic year!) • CPT – while in school (Internship) • OPT – • Pre-completion (Before Graduation) • Post-completion (After Graduation)

Review Arrival Process • Upon arrival report to the OGE with your immigration documents. • Meet with your academic advisor. • Be sure you stay in Full-Time Status or are Authorized for Reduced Course Load • 9 Hours for Graduate Students • 12 Hours for Undergraduate Students • Even if you want to change majors you must remain registered full-time in a course of study • You must gain approval from Mrs. Piletz for any course drop or add

Intensive English Program • IEP Graduation Requirements: Effective October 15, 2014 • Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 • 80% or higher average: Complete academic admission regardless of TOEFL ITP or IELTS scores • 70%-79% average: Must score at least a • 417-459 TOEFL ITP to move into the Link Program or • 460 TOEFL ITP for complete academic admission • 60%-69% average: Must score at least a 417 TOEFL ITP to move into the Link Program • Intermediate • 80% or higher average: Must score at least a 417 TOEFL ITP to move into the Link Program • All Levels • 59% or below: Failure  Students must repeat IEP or transfer regardless of TOEFL ITP or IELTS scores

Tips for Educational Success! • Go to class! • MC Policy 2.10.3 States: A Student receives a grade of F in any course immediately upon accumulating the following number of absences in that class: • 12 in semester classes meeting 3 times per week • 8 in semester classes meeting 2 times per week • 4 in semester classes meeting 1 time per week • 6 in summer day classes • “some specific requirements may vary according to the nature of the course” • MC Policy 2.10.4 also says, “For lesser number of absences the student should expect a lower grade in the course. ... The calculation of the semester grade is the responsibility of the professor and may vary according to the nature of the course and the grading scale used.”

  7. Tips for Educational Success • Go to class on-time – maybe even arrive 5 minutes early! • Read your Syllabus • Really listen to your instructor and take detailed notes • Pay close attention to your Academic Calendar

Academic Honesty MC Policy 2.19 defines Plagiarism: “No student shall submit as his or her own work any term paper, research paper, thesis, or any other academic assignment of original work that in any part is not in fact his/her own work. Knowingly using the ideas of another person and offering them as one’s own original ideas is prohibited by this policy to the same extent as knowingly using the words of another writer and offering them as one’s own original writing.” Consequences: • First Offense: • Forfeiture of Financial Aid • Probation for One Year • Second Offense: • Forfeiture of Financial Aid or Scholarships • Permanent loss of ability to participate in Internship Programs • Suspension from the University for up to one year • Possible permanent suspension from the university

Tips for Buying a Car • Anything $2000 or less is not a good deal - you will probably get a car that is very unreliable and needs a lot of mechanical work. • Be wary of buying anything from Craigslist.com. • Cars.com or CarMax.com are good places to start looking for a used car. • The MC shuttle van schedule can be found at: http://www.mc.edu/offices/safety/bus-schedule/. We also have copies in the OGE for you!

  13. Housing • Graduate Student housing • Century 21 • Zillow • Craigslist (Be Cautious meeting strangers and giving out private information over email or phone. • Utilities • Water (City of Clinton) • Electricity (Entergy) • Gas (Atmos) • Internet • Many providers (AT&T, Comcast, etc.)

Student Activities • Settler’s Day (Tomorrow) • For more information about Settlers Days at Milepost 89 vistwww.clintonms.org and contactvisitorcenter@clintonms.org or call 601-924-2221. • State Fair October 1-12 • Voice of the Nations • Celebration of Culture • Football Games • Saudi Arabia Day (postponed to Tuesday at the Piazza) • Host Families • Tourist Attractions: museums, Mississippi River, Reservoir , shopping centers, etc

  15. Reminders from the OGE • Be sure to notify the OGE of your local address if you have not! • Be sure to get your Mumps, Measles, and Rubella immunizations and your tuberculosis tests completed. These are due the week before mid-term (Oct. 15). You will not be able to view your mid-term grades without having done these! • If you are a general admission student, please be sure to provide your professors with the English proficiency evaluation and have them turn into the OGE by Oct.15! • If you find that you are beginning to struggle in class or did not do well on your first exam, please notify Mr. An, Ran (an@mc.edu) immediately to sign up for the mentor program.

  16. Reminders from the OGE • Please notify the OGE if you have any medical matters. • Please take time to read the Message Board in the OGE. • Please notify your bank of your current address. • Be sure to pick up your mail in the OGE, if you have used our address! • Like us on Facebook!
