  2. Question: • Why does black colored fabric absorb the sun more than lighter colors?

  3. Hypothesis • Our hypothesis: Black absorbs heat more than lighter colors, because it has more atoms.

  4. Method 1.First we put 2 shirts under 2 lamp lights (Black and White shirts) 2.We put a thermometer in between each shirt. 3.Each minute, we recorded the temperature change between each shirt 4.We recorded for 15 minutes, and when we were finished, we put another 2 shirts under the lamp lights 5. We repeated steps 1-4, for the remaining 2 shirts (red and yellow shirts)

  5. Observation • While we were putting the shirts under the lamp light, we recognized the black fabric temperature was lower than the white. Me and Rikka figured out the black was not folded right, and the temperature was probably measuring through it. So we folded the black shirt and the temperature raised. Black fabric finished off with less than 100 degrees, but the temperature was still larger than white. We realized Black does attract the sun more. White ended with less than 94 degrees. The shirts were not very hot when we felt them.

  6. Observation 2: • The red t-shirt ended up with a higher temperature than the yellow, which was what we were expecting. This was because the red t-shirt was darker. But why do darker colors absorb light, more than lighter colors?

  7. Conclusion • Yes! Black does attract the sun more than light colors. Here is why: • Turns out, atoms move faster when it is heated. So black fabric is made of atoms, and when the fabric was heated, the temperature process moved faster.
