  2. CPFD’s purpose is to inform all personnel assigned or working in the facility of the presence of ammonia under the OSHA instruction 1910. All employees have received the following informational sheet. CPFD’s su propuesta es informar al empleado asignado o trabajando en el edificio con la presencia de amonia bajo la instruccion de OSHA de 1910.   3. Coastal Pacific Food Distributors Ammonia Handling and Safety PURPOSE: To inform all personnel assigned or working in this facility of the presence of ammonia under the OSHA instructions 1910. REFERENCE: OSHA 1910 IIAR Ammonia Handling Standard Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Coastal Pacific Food Distributors (CPFD) will be loading anhydrous ammonia on 8/16-8/20/10 as part of this facility start-up of the refrigeration system. Coastal Pacific will handing out material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), which informs you of the chemical composition of ammonia and the hazards of its handling. The ammonia will be loaded from a tank to the receiver. We will transfer the operations to the other vessels located in the mechanical room. We also ask you to be aware and report any odor and/or vapor you may notice to Coastal Pacific’s Management so we may correct the problem. FIRST AID Ammonia is a hazardous chemical. It is not poisonous to you nor is it an acute toxin; however, it is deadly if you are caught in a confined area. It has an alarming odor to make you aware of its presence. If you detect ammonia or see a cloud of white vapor, leave the area immediately (upwind of vapor cloud) and notify Coastal Pacific’s Management. We will check out the odor, correct the problem as soon as possible. Water is the immediate form of first aid treatment in the prevention of serious injury. If you come in contact with liquid ammonia, you should immediately FLUSH areas with water then seek medical attention. We have in the area emergency eye wash/showers located in the facility in case of an accident. Ventilation is another form of neutralization.
