Motivation • IEEE 802.11e provides QoS for real-time traffics to meet the requirements: • max latency • min data rate • max packet drop probability • IEEE 802.11e supports • EDCA and HCCA • Prioritized QoS and parameterized QoS • IEEE 802.11k draft lacks the measurements or the metrics to capture QoS performance that is enhanced in 802.11e • Provide resolution for LB71 comment#928. Proposal • Provide metrics for each traffic category/stream per destination • Each traffic category/stream can be identified by Traffic Identifier (TID, defined in .11e) • For each of TID per destination, define the following metrics: • Transmitted frame count • Frame loss count • Accumulate transmit frame delay • Jitter ??? • Define Traffic Stream Measurement Request/Response Emily Qi, Intel Corporation

Why do we need it? • Traffic stream/category specific statistics give more accurate indication for wireless network capacity and wireless network performance in QBSS • stronger indication for the performance of VoIP stream and Video stream • A potential roaming trigger • Help STA to prepare next ADDTs request • Help AP on Admission Control and Scheduling • Network Diagnosis Emily Qi, Intel Corporation

  5. Transmitted Frame Count • The total number of frames that are successfully transmitted after 0 or n retries during the measurement duration for the specified traffic TID • Could be used for calculating frame loss rate and average delay • 4 octets long Emily Qi, Intel Corporation

  6. Frame Loss Count • The total number of frames that are discarded after given numbers of retries during the measurement duration for the specified traffic TID • This number will be used for calculating frame loss rate • 4 octets long Emily Qi, Intel Corporation

  7. Accumulate Transmit Frame Delay • The total of delay for all the transmit frames that are successfully transmitted during the measurement duration of the specified traffic TID • Delay is measured from the time a packet arrives to MAC layer to the time acknowledgement received • This number will be used for calculating average delay during the measurement duration • 4 octets long, in units of milliseconds Emily Qi, Intel Corporation

  8. Jitter ??? • The variation of transmit frame delay • It is important metric for voice and video from Endpoint to Endpoint prospective. • But not sure it will be useful to measure delay variation between AP and STA • Not include Jitter in this proposal Emily Qi, Intel Corporation

Traffic Stream Request • TID field • Value 0-7 indicates the UP of prioritized QoS (TC) and TS with access policy set to EDCA • Value 8-15 indicates TSID for TS with access policy set to a value other than EDCA • Requested measuring traffic/stream is the stream that is sent from the requested STA and to the requesting STA with the specified Traffic ID (TID) Emily Qi, Intel Corporation
