Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on August 22, 1920 Loving family in a small town Began writing in 1931 Moved to Los Angeles in 1934—found talented friends Active in Drama Club Teachers encouraged him to write Joined the Poetry Club Formal Education ended with high school Early Years

First published story in 1938 called "Hollerbochen's Dilemma" 1939 wrote four issues of his own magazine called Futuria Fantasia First paid publication “Pendulum” in 1941 1943 gave up selling newspapers to write full time 1945 sold the short story “The Big Black and White Game” 1946 met his future wife, Maggie--married in 1947 later Four daughters born between 1949 and 1958 Young Adult Life
