  1. JánosBolyai

  2. Date of Birth & Death He was born on December 15, 1802 and he died on January 27, 1860.

  3. Where he was born He was born in Kolozsvar, Hungary and died in Marosvasarhely, Hungary. Kolozsvar, Hungary is known today as Cluj, Romania and Marosvasarhely, Hungary is known as Tirgu-Mures, Romania.

  4. His Religious & Political Views He has no recorded religion or political views because he spent all his time as a math mathematician.

  5. How he contributed to the world of math He invented non-Euclidean geometry which means geometrybased upon one or more postulates that differ from those of Euclid, especially from the postulate that only one line may be drawn through a givenpoint parallel to agiven line. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/non-euclidean%20geometry?fromAsk=true&o=100074

  6. How it would be today without it Think of it as a brick wall every mathematician or famous math person has put their own bricks into the wall building us up to where we are now. Say Janos Bolyai never invented non- Euclidean geometry the whole world would not be as smart until somebody invented it.

  7. Three interesting facts * His dad Farkas had a job at Calvinist College and he taught mathematics. * He taught himself to read when he was five. * He knew well known constellations when he was four.
