  1. Unit 2: Careers and Planning Section 1: Its about YOU

  2. I CAN: • Distinguish a job vs an occupation vs a career; salary vs income • Define: Standard of living and Productivity

  3. Job vs. Occupation vs. Career Occupation Career Job • A Task you complete • A category of work which includes many related jobs • A lifetime journey of building and making good use of your skills, knowledge, and experiences

  4. Salary or Income Salary (AKA WAGES) Income • The total amount your business pays you BEFORE taxes, insurance, union dues, etc • The number on your contract or advertised hourly wage • This is what banks, loan officers, etc are looking for • The amount you take home. Usually 75% of your salary. • The number on your check or that is actually deposited into your account • This is what should matter to YOU

  5. Productivity • How much can you do in a given amount of time • Is influenced by salary • EX: if you mow lawns and receive $30 per lawn, you’ll try to cut as many lawns as possible. Whereas, if you mow lawns, but are paid $60 daily regardless of how many lawns are mowed, are you going to mow lots of lawns? • Brainstorm real life examples of this with your table

  6. Standard of Living • Minimum standard conditions you want in your life • My standard of living includes: a 3 bedroom/2 bath home, activities for my kids, netflix, wifi, 2 cars, a smart phone, etc • I would consider my family to be “struggling” if we didn’t have this minimum standard. • Someone else might include a maid or nanny, not having to work, fine dining… This is completely up to the individual

  7. CAN I? • Distinguish an occupation vs a career; salary vs income • Define: Standard of living and Productivity I can Prove this by completing • 3.1 • 3.2 • 3.4 • 3.11
