  3. SSI What is SSI? District Requirements NTE is requiring that students pass ALL core subjects. Math ELA/Reading Science Social Studies NTE will also take into consideration the students’ reading level. All students should be reading at or near grade level by the end of the year. STAAR tests and Accelerated Reader can be used to assess reading levels. • SSI stands for Student Success Initiative. • 5th grade is considered an SSI grade and all students are expected to pass their STAAR Math and STAAR Reading tests in order to be promoted.

  4. Math STAAR This is what we are doing to achieve our goals. Texas Treasures book adoption C-Scope is a curriculum that is implemented at NTE. Daily Instruction Expressways to Math Computer program targeting students in need of extra help Accelerated Math computer assessment program Differentiated Instruction Students are placed in small groups Weekly homework Due on Wednesday Six Weeks Tests • Testing Date: March 27, 2013 • The passing standards will be set in 2012. It is likely that the standards will be phased in over a number of years, which is a practice Texas has used with previous student testing programs.

Daily Instruction Expressways to Reading Computer program targeting students in need of extra help Accelerated Reader computer program This is really being promoted for intervention. Please make sure you child is reading every day. Differentiated Instruction Students are placed in small groups Weekly homework Due on Tuesday Six Weeks Tests • Testing Dates: March 28, 2013 • The passing standards will be set in 2012. It is likely that the standards will be phased in over a number of years, which is a practice Texas has used with previous student testing programs.

  6. Science STAAR This is what we are doing to achieve our goals. C-Scope is a curriculum that is implemented at NTE. Daily Instruction Study Island This is really being promoted for intervention. Differentiated Instruction Students are placed in small groups Weekly homework Due on Thursday Six Weeks Tests • Testing Dates: April 26, 2013 • Only one administration • The passing standards will be set in 2012. It is likely that the standards will be phased in over a number of years, which is a practice Texas has used with previous student testing programs.

  7. Homework and Tutorials Homework Tutorials Held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30. Math, Reading, and Science are alternating. Please encourage your child to stay. Snacks are provided. Please pick up your child on time. Children, times, and days may change next semester. • Homework sheet is passed out every Monday • Reading due on Tuesday • Math due on Wednesday • Science due on Thursday • Social Studies due on Friday • 20% of their grade • Please check your child’s work.

  8. Other Information Attendance Lockdowns Safety is important to us and we will be practicing a lockdown soon. Please be aware that this is a practice. Lockdowns can occur for various reasons such as unknown persons on campus, a high speed chase in the area, border patrol searches, etc. • It is important to have your child here on time. • A child is considered to be tardy if they arrive after 7:55. • Detentions for tardies will be held after school. • 96% attendance (and other qualifying criteria) is needed for your child to be released May 24.

  9. OFYP (Optional Flexible Year Plan) OFYP Criteria 96% attendance (missed no more than 5 days) At least an 86 grade average on all core subjects Pass all STAAR Tests on the first administration. Results for the 2nd administration will not arrive in time for an early release. • Students meeting the criteria will be allowed to end their school year two weeks earlier.

  10. Parental Support Please, Thank you!!! • Read with your child everyday. • Please check your child’s homework. • Use Parent Connect to check your child’s grades. • Please schedule conferences for ANY concern.
