  3. AR Program • Research has shown that one of the most beneficial things your child can do to succeed in school is to read often. • Because your child is still learning to read, please have your child read at least 20 minutes every day with you. • Your child will be given an AR goal each nine weeks. This goal will be based on your child’s reading ability and 20 minutes of nightly reading. • This year we will be utilizing your child’s LEXILE scores to determine his/her reading levels. More information about this will come home soon.

  4. AR for Parents • Parents may log on to Renaissance Home Connect to keep track of your child’s AR progress. • A letter with information will be sent home.

  5. Georgia Standards of Excellence • Guidelines to our second grade curriculum can be accessed at https://www.georgiastandards.org • 2nd Grade uses a standards-based report card. ***Parents will receive a detailed letter of the learning expectations for the standards based report card.

  6. K-2 Report Card ***The criteria for meeting the standard may change every nine weeks as the performance expectations of the standard become more rigorous each quarter.

  7. CogAt (Cognitive Abilities Test) This test helps identify students who are eligible for gifted instruction (GAT). Date: October 15th This test is now taken on the computer, so results will be sent home earlier.

  8. Math Information Along with the typical math curriculum, your child will be participating in Rocket Math. • Rocket Math is a scientific-based learning approach to teaching math addition and subtraction facts. Your child will be utilizing this program everyday through repetitive practice of the addition and subtraction facts. *** You may want to purchase flash cards for additional practice at home.
