  2. Description of Practice Valencia Elementary : Growing Engaged Readers In grades 1-6 teachers collaborate to design targeted instruction at student instructional level. Four levels are created with support staff to decrease staff: student ratios – Every level works on the same standard at the same time but with varied reading materials ENRICHMENT BENCHMARK STRATEGIC INTENSIVE

Links to Common CoreInstructional Shifts • Grade levels worked from the new common core standards to design 6-8 week units of study. • Regular collaborative meetings scheduled with agendas and minutes • Performance Assessment • Focus on key ideas and details; “close” reading • Finding evidence in the text • Increased emphasis on informational text at all grade levels
