  3. Influenza Sentinels 2006-07 • 29 sites participating • Specialties: FP, IM, PD, Student Health • Report weekly # patients with ILI & total # patient visits • Specimens to PHL on select patients

  4. AHEDD Influenza-like Illness Pilot Project • Automated Hospital Emergency Department Data (AHEDD) • Collects real time ED data • Query tool developed for influenza-like illness (ILI) in 2006

  6. NH Public Health Laboratories 2006-07 As of 1/9/07: • Total specimens received = 44 • Positives (n=14) • Influenza AH1 12 (86%) • Influenza AH3 0 • Influenza B 2 ( 14%)

  7. Weekly Flu Activity Estimates In NH estimates based on: • Reports of influenza-like illness (ILI) • ED syndromic surveillance reports of fever & respiratory syndromes • Reported outbreaks in facilities • Reports of confirmed influenza

  8. Avian Influenza H5N1Current Situation • H5N1 virus continues to evolve • Since mid-summer 2006: • Poultry outbreaks: Cambodia, Egypt, Indonesia, Nigeria, S Korea, Vietnam • Human cases: Indonesia, Thailand, China, Egypt • Confirmed by WHO: ~ 27 human cases & 20 deaths

  10. Pandemic Planning • CDC’s Interim Mask Guidance released 10/2006 [www.pandemicflu.gov] • State & local planning documents continue to be developed • Revised State pandemic plan in review • Overall messaging for local planning has not changed

NH Pandemic Plan Revisions Significant changes include: • More detail to many sections • Addition of Regional Activities • Federal Government Response Stages added • Community Containment Preparedness & Response (pharmaceutical & non-pharmaceutical) • Appendices added: • Home Care for Pandemic Flu (Am Red Cross) • Infection Control Fact Sheet for Law Enforcement
