  4. How do we know what our students know? • If our goal is to assess what students are learning, then what does it tell us if the student does not do the work? • What systems and/or structures do we currently have that could be altered to help us work differently? 9. Suggestions for further thought, dialogue, change in structure or system • Grading for content should be based on the subject matter • Grading for effort should be standardized; include a grade for effort so the students are held accountable • Detentions with teachers if students do not turn in homework • If no homework, do not accept any homework assignments until first one is submitted • Take away privileges in class if no homework • 3 missed assignments = two weeks of detention to get work finished • Dept labs that is no travel or for make up work • IC auto call or email to parent and ac lab teacher for every missed assignment; lab teacher then directs student to teacher during ac lab • Teachers assign students to no travel ac lab until assignments are complete • Activity-based labs; students who have coach/sponsor are assigned to that person for ac lab; coach/sponsor holds student responsible • Communication with parents, other teachers, coaches, counselors when work isn’t completed • Ac lab passes specifically for missed assignments • Make an individualized effort for each student which includes, but is not limited to, contacting students’ guardians, assigning detentions with the teacher to ensure task completion, utilization of ac lab time • Multiple detention rooms—assigned by content area • Mandatory ac labs to complete homework (like in elem schools take away recess) • ****there was a card written in green ink that got wet so I couldn’t read it…if that was your group, let me know your suggestion. Sorry!
