  1. 1st Workshop on:Unified Experiment Control System Welcome! Holger Brand, DVEE, GSI H.Brand@gsi.de

  2. Introduction • German Federal Government has approved future accelerator project in Darmstadt(BMBF Press Release, 2/5/2003) • Usage of 6th EU Research Program(BMBF Press Release, 2/3/2003) • Joined Research Projects started • Deadline for EU Design Proposal 2005 - 2008 October 15 2003 H.Brand@gsi.de

  3. EU Design Proposal • ¼ of the investments must be contributed from Third Parties • EU Design Proposal! • What to propose? H.Brand@gsi.de

  4. Problem • New experiments and accelerators need control systems with features beyond common available frameworks • Applications • from SCADA • over Real-time • to closed loop control FPGA • Deployment and Integration of Distributed Intelligent Subsystems H.Brand@gsi.de

  5. Unified Experiment Control System • We need to do the work anyway • So let's start collecting control system requirements during detector design • Take control system requirements into account during detector development • See first draft version of the EU Design Proposal attached to the invitation H.Brand@gsi.de

  6. Idea of this workshop • Bring people together and start communication • Formation of a Competence Team • Formation of Special Interest Groups • Evaluation of standard and new technologies within detector development (Prototyping) • Distribution of experience (Synergy) • Discussion of the EU Design Proposal H.Brand@gsi.de

  7. Agenda • Welcome and Introduction • Status of EU Design Proposal • Experiment Requirements • Status Reports • Industry Talks • Formation of a Competence Team and Discussion of EU Design Proposal H.Brand@gsi.de
