  2. Sectioning • Straight back sectioning is used • All partings must meet Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  3. Section Numbers • There are 9 numbered sections • Sections 467812 5 9 3 Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  4. Basic Rolling Tips • Sub-section using the rod as a guide • Sub-section cannot be longer than the rod • Sub-section cannot be wider than the diameter of the rod • Use less tension than with magnetic rollers • Ends must be completely covered with paper or they will burn (FISHHOOKS) Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  5. Wrapping • Use bookend wrap • Use double or single end wrap if necessary • Make sure all ends are covered with paper • Smooth paper onto rod Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  6. Rocking the rod • Rock the rod back and forth while rolling • Use tension • This will spread the hair across the rod Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  7. Rocking the rod • Rock rod back and forth • Do this until the rod is next to the scalp • Watch the hair spread out Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  8. Secure the Band • Allow the band to untwist • Snap the band straight out parallel to rod • Bring band across the top of rod • Secure top into band • Do NOT push band to scalp Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  9. Sections 2 & 3 • Lift center rod • Part horizontally from side section • Make sure partings match • Continue on each side for all rods Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  10. Sections 2 & 3 • All partings should match • Same # of rods on each side Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  11. Section 7, 8, 9 • Center section rolled first • Side sections must be parted horizontally • Partings must match Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  12. Sections 7, 8, 9 • Continue parting horizontally • Partings must match • Same amount of rods on each side • All partings must match on each side Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application

  13. Front sections • Part horizontally to match sides • Same amount of rods on each side • In center section, front two are rolled forward Cosmetology I - Perm Roller Application
