Orientation WorkshopNewly Appointed Title II-A Coordinators No Child Left Behind Teacher Quality Goals NCLB places a major emphasis upon teacher quality as a factor in improving student achievement.(Title I Section 1119) 2002-2003- All teachers hired after the first day of the 2002-03 school year and teaching in a program supported by Title I funds must be “highly qualified.” August 31, 2006– All other teachers teaching core academic subjects must be “highly qualified” by August 31, 2006. August 31, 2006–All teachers not currently considered highly qualified must report on the HiQ system a remediation method to be implemented in 2006-07.

  5. “Highly Qualified” Teachers Certified by the PSC plus Major/ Concentration in Subject/ Content Area(s) New Teachers Content Test (Praxis II / GACE or Other State Certification Test) Veteran Teachers Content Test (Praxis II/GACE or Other State Certification Test) Or HOUSSE to Establish Content Expertise or plus Teachers must be assigned to teach in appropriate subject/content area(s)

Orientation WorkshopNewly Appointed Title II-A Coordinators No Child Left Behind • Highly Qualified Veteran Teachers: • Bachelor’s Degree • Professional Teaching Certificate • Major/Concentration in Subject / Content Area(s) • Passing Test Score in Subject / Content Area(s) or, • HOUSSE (100 points) and Teachers must be assigned to teach in appropriate subject/content area(s)

Orientation WorkshopNewly Appointed Title II-A Coordinators No Child Left Behind • HOUSSE is designed to assess and document competency of veteran teachers only • Requires 100 points (points in at least 3 categories) HOUSSEHigh Objective Uniform State Standard of Evaluation (Veteran teachers have completed a total of 3 or more full years of successful teaching.)
