  2. Questions: • What is the main function of a MCU? • What is the purpose of a buffer storage? • What consequences would result without a buffer storage in a MCU? • How many sections does a CPU contain? What are they?

  5. Translation: • 1. The main function of MCU is to take the part program and convert this information into a language that the machine tool can understand so that it can perform the functions required to produce a finished part. • 2. One of the first operations that the MCU must perform is to take the binary-coded data from the punched tape and change it into binary digits.

  6. MCUs which don’t have buffer storage must have high-speed tape readers to avoid the pauses in transferring information and the machining operation. • Since the early 1950s, MCUs have developed from the bulky vacuum tube units to today’s computer control units, which incorporate the latest microprocessor technology.

  7. The developmnt of soft-wired controls in the mid1970s resulted in more flexible and less costly MCUs. • The CPU of any computer contains three sections: control, arithmetic-logic, and memory.

  8. Supplementary knowledge: • Night-night • A dark horse • A goose • Talk horse
