Exploravision Project What exactly does it involve? What do we have to turn in? What if we are / aren’t planning on entering the national competition?
Project Overview • Each team selects a technology (or an aspect of a technology) that is present in and relevant to their lives • Look at the tools and technologies people use every day — it could be as simple as a pencil or as complex as a quantum computer • First, the team explores what the technology does, how it works, and how, when and why it was invented
Project Overview (Cont.) • Next, the team imagines and explores what that technology could be like 20 years from now • Identify a problem that a current technology does not solve, then imagine possible solutions • Finally, each team prepares an in-depth report that conveys its vision to others • (for step-by-step instructions)
Project Report • Title Page • Abstract • Description • Bibliography • Electronic Presentation / Web Page Graphics • Hard Copies
Project ReportAbstract • An abstract of no more than 150 words that summarizes the proposed future technology and other relevant information.
Project ReportDescription • Written description of the project no longer than (eleven) 11 pages • The description may be a combination of text and artwork • It must include the following sections: • Present Technology • History • Future Technology • Breakthroughs • Design Process • Consequences
Project ReportDescription (Sections) • Present Technology • Overview of the technology, including scientific principles involved in functioning • History • Research and describe the history of the technology from its inception • Future Technology • Team’s vision for what the technology will be like in 20 years • Scientific principles involved in developing the technology
Project ReportDescription (Sections) • Breakthroughs • Research and describe breakthroughs that are necessary to make the future technology a reality • “Why doesn’t this technology exist today?” • Design Process • Three alternative ideas or features that were considered while developing YOUR project • Describe why these ideas/features wer not chosen • A brief description of the design process that the group went through
Project ReportDescription (Sections) • Consequences • Describe potential positive and negative consequences of the new technology on society
Project ReportBibliography • All sources used in researching the chosen technology should be referenced • Footnotes/endnotes are strongly encouraged • Bibliography should be a separate page after description • Does not count towards eleven pages
Electronic PresentationSimulated Web Page Graphics • Prepare a presentation to promote the future technology
Electronic PresentationSimulated Web Page Graphics • Presentation must be no more than five (5) slides • Slides should highlight the… • current technology and it’s history • Future Technology • Design Process • Consequences
Electronic PresentationSimulated Web Page Graphics • Must include five (5) simulated web page graphics • Can be hand drawn or computer generated • Pages should relate to one another, as if they would be on a site • Pages should highlight the… • current technology and it’s history • Future Technology • Design Process • Consequences
