2. Whether you’re moving down the street or across the country, moving is a time consuming and monumental event. The tips and checklist below are designed to keep you organized, on task and stress-free before your move.

3. As soon as you decide to move, start sorting through all your belongings and donate or trash items you don’t want to take with you. This will save your time and space when packing and give you a clutter-free start in your home.

4. Pack by room; fill each box with items from only one room. Label the box with the appropriate room, and then number each box you pack with a permanent marker. List the number of each box in a notebook. Jot down the contents of each box next to the appropriate number.

5. Pack heavy items in small boxes that are not overfilled so they are easier to lift. Pack light things in larger boxes. Similarly, pack cloths in large wardrobe boxes or hang them from a temporary rod in the back of your car.

6. While moving into your new home, place all boxes in a spare room in piles according to the category like kitchen, bath etc… Then pull out one box at a time to unpack. This will make unpacking less overwhelming, and you’ll be able to move around your new place easier.
