Key Knowledge The following key knowledge is the focus of this task: • management structures; • corporate culture and its future development; • selected key management roles: – planning: long, medium and short-term – organising: resource and task allocation techniques – leading: importance of leadership qualities, including interpersonal, informational and decision-making – controlling: financial and non-financial processes and control systems; • the need for, and process of, policy development and its application.

  3. Key Skills The following key skills are the focus of this task: • accurately use relevant management terms; • analyse business information and data; • analyse major aspects of the internal environment of large-scale organisations; • apply knowledge and concepts to practical and/or simulated situations.

  4. Business Management Question 1 – You need to be able to define the terms • a. Management structure • b. Bureaucracy • c. Tactical/operational planning • d. Organising

  5. Question 2 – Types of Management Structures

  6. 2a) You need to be able to contrast this structure with another one. The example is a division. You need to be able to contrast this against one other structure. You get one mark for the identification and another for being able to contrast it.

  7. SAC Revision 2b) Authority Responsibility Communication You need to be able to provide a definition of each (1 mark) and then enter a discussion about how these relate to the management structure shown at the start of question 2 (3 marks).

  8. SAC Revision 3) Corporate Culture You need to explain two characteristics of corporate culture and then relate it to an organisation you are familiar with. For example: Values/attitudes/dress codes and language, celebrations and symbols. (2marks for two characteristics). Two marks for being able to apply it to a real organisation.

  10. SAC Revision 4b) You need to be able to identify an appropriate –large-scale organisation and undertake a SWOT analysis. An example of this is shown below:

  11. SAC Revision 5) Be able to explain three qualities of a leader. These could include: • Good interpersonal skills • Informational • Decision making

  12. SAC Revision 6) Be able to define control as a management role. Discuss its importance and be able to outline three key steps that would be part of the control process.

  13. SAC Revision 7) Be able to analyse four steps that would be part of the policy development process. These could include: • Research and examine new legislation • Consult with relevant stakeholders about relevant legislation • Company should develop a draft of the new policy • Once feedback has been received consideration needs to be given to this information.
