  2. What is Open Data? Government collects and publishes lots and lots of information, but often the data is hard to find or work with…

  3. Open Data is not only about creating efficiency… it's about increasing transparency and accountability

  5. How can you find data? On www.opendata.go.ke portal 1 Through third party web and mobile applications 2 Online Government Data can be found through:

  6. Support for the initiative: In the revised constitution: Article 35 in the Bill of Rights says every citizen has the right to access to information held by the state. We are working on the FOI act.

  7. So, HOW did we DO it? -Identify a Champion -Gather a group of partners -It was a labor of love for the Kenyan partners: -CSO -Public sector -Private sector -Independent consultants

  9. Data, Coordination and Release -Leverage Freedom of Information Act -Take advantage and: -Identify already existing and published data -Identify already existing unpublished data with good contacts that can be leveraged

  10. Data, Coordination and Release... -Identify Data Experts not only with the expertise but the passion. -Create a platform that will hold the data -GET SUPPORT FROM THE HIGHEST POLITICAL OFFICE!
