  1. Filter Changing Procedures For TEOM Series 1400ab and Model 8500 FDMS (B & C Types)

  2. Before you start: • You need to have: • Spare Blue Filter Cartridge • Tweezers • Pall Flex 47mm diameter Media (a.k.a EMFAB) • Clean Petri Dish or re-sealable polythene bag • Always work in a clean, dry environment.

  3. Filter Preparation • Separate the two halves of the filter cartridge and remove the spent filter and store or discard as required. • Do not use a screwdriveror similar tool for this operation. It will damage the cartridge.

  4. Filter Preparation • Check steel screen is clean and undamaged. Check both halves of cartridge for nicks and chips. • If damaged discard and replace.

  5. Filter Preparation • Take new filter from supply box using tweezers and place carefully into the lower half of the filter cartridge. • Never touch a new filter with your fingers. The filter should have the dull textured side upwards and the woven shiny side toward the steel screen.

  7. Filter Preparation • Fit the upper ring and press firmly down onto a clean dry surface to seal.

  8. Filter Preparation • Put the cartridge into the polythene bag or Petri dish containing a silica gel desiccant and seal to prevent contamination or uptake of moisture. • Do not remove it until ready to fit to the FDMS.

  9. At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • Press 14and then Enteron the TEOM control unit keyboard. This will bring up a special display showing the current operating mode of the FDMS. • The unit MUST be in BASE mode before proceeding, if not wait till it changes from REF mode toBASE mode beforeproceeding or Press F8to force change.

  10. At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • Switch the power to the FDMS module OFFto lock the system inBASE mode. • Thepower can be switched off on the rear panel using the switch above the power cord or at the wall outlet.

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • C Type - Open the access door on the left side of the FDMS module by releasing the black thumbscrew. • Firmly grip and turn the grey seal anti-clockwise to release it. • B Type – Open front door, press and detach tubing connector and unscrew filter holder anticlockwise

  12. At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • Remove the blue filter cartridge and replace with a new pre-prepared one. • Place the cartridge into the holder with the steel screen against the inner chamber and the filter media facing outwards. C Type B Type

  13. At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • Using a tissue carefully wipe away any moisture which might be present in and around the filter chamber making sure no loose fibres or tissue are left behind.

  14. At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • C Type - Check the condition of the ‘V’ seal and if damaged either replace it or report it to CMCU. • B Type – Check flat sealing ring and ‘o’ ring and if damaged replace it or report it to CMCU

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • C Type - Replace the grey seal cap with the cartridge inside and turn to lock. • B Type – Screw filter holder firmly into place and attach tubing connector • Close the access door and secure with the thumbscrew or latch. • NOTE. The time the seal is open to atmosphere should be minimised to prevent condensation forming on the cold surfaces.

  16. At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter • Switch ONthe FDMS power.

  17. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Check the control unit is still in DATA STOP mode. (S in mode display) if not press DATA STOP again.

  18. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Open the sensor outer door and open the sensor block by releasing the latch.

  19. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Using the filter exchange tool carefully remove the used filter from the end of the tapered element by pulling gently and directly upwards. • DO NOT LEVER OR TURN THE FILTER TOOLas this could damage the tapered element.

  20. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Discard or store the spent filter from the exchange tool. • Pick up a new filter from one of the two storage pins on the sensor platform.

  21. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Place the new filter onto the tapered element using the tool. • When in position push the tool directly downward to secure the filter onto the tip of the tapered element .

  22. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Using the filter exchange tool take a new filter from the box and place it onto the free storage pin. • Close the box and re-seal it in the bag with the desiccant pouch and store inside the sensor housing.

  23. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Close the sensor block and secure with the latch.

  24. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Check the vacuum gauge and note the value. The vacuum should ideally be better than - 20” Hg. • Acceptable performance is usually between -18 to -24 “ Hg. If less than -18” Hg report this to CMCU as this indicates the pump is in need of service or replacement.

  25. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • Press RUN or F1 on the TEOM Control unit and check that the mode changes from S to 1 • Check that the RED Status lamp on the front panel goes out after a few minutes.

  26. At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter • After a few minutes the mode will change through 2, 3 and then 4 indicating that the system is again in normal operation. • This usually takes 5 - 10 minutes but can be up to 30 minutes depending on system status.
