  6. Examples • Workload is defined in terms of weighted teaching units (WTU) • A course of three units = 3 WTUs (20%) • Faculty load = 15 WTUs • Expectation • Teaching 12 WTUs (full load) • Research / Service 3 WTUs

  7. Example - continued • A faculty member can • Buy 6 WTUs (40%) of workload to do research • Teach 2 courses (40%) • Service/Research (20%)

  8. Other Models • Depends on number of students • Increase workload factor • Funding base dependent

  9. Terms for Budgeting • SFR – Student Faculty Ratio ~ 18 our target is 20 • FTES – Full-time equivalent student (FTES) • Student that takes 15 units • Target of number of students – 300 FTES
