Calderdale Forum 50+ Calderdale Forum 50+ • is developing as a Forum for people aged 50 and over, recognising the diversity within this huge age range • aims to be a positive and constructive voice that is valued by service providers and the general public • has identified some ‘ambitions’ for 50+ people. • The Council Budget Consultation has influenced our work plans • How will we know that what we say will make a difference to what is delivered by Calderdale Council, health services and other providers? + Every Voice Matters +

Calderdale Forum 50+ • Calderdale Older People’s Strategy 2008 • Vision: to ensure that people stay in control of their lives and play a full and active role in society, recognising cultural diversity and backgrounds. • Improved health and emotional well-being • Improved quality of life • Positive contribution • Increased choice and control • Freedom from discrimination and harassment • Economic well being • Maintaining dignity and respect + Every Voice Matters +

Calderdale Forum 50+ Getting Around in Calderdale: ambitions include • public access to safe, clean and accessible toilet facilities • information about the condition of local roads, and availability of public transport and services at the times we need it • people-friendly pavements and places that are clean and safe for walking, exercising and socialising • affordable, accessible and convenient public and community transport • safe access to friends and family, social activity and shops + Every Voice Matters +

Calderdale Forum 50+ Working Together Effectively and Efficiently: ambitions 1 • consultation, communication and mutual understanding between local people and service providers in all sectors • effective communication between organisations, for more efficient delivery of services and better outcomes and impacts for 50+ people • commitment and dissemination of information within organisations, using language which is understandable at strategic, middle management, operational and front-line levels + Every Voice Matters +

Calderdale Forum 50+ Working Together Effectively and Efficiently: ambitions 2 • a shared database/publication of 50+ information in a range of formats and languages that is clear, accessible and understandable • previous successes are identified, celebrated and built on, so experience and resources are not wasted • talk with us in a language we can understand + Every Voice Matters +

Calderdale Forum 50+ Preventative Measures: ambitions 1 • that sufficient resources are put into early intervention, low-level and preventative services • health, care and other professionals work with 50+ people, enabling them to take more control of their health, safety, well-being and independence • front-line and senior health and care practitioners have information and training for effective signposting to preventative and support services + Every Voice Matters +

Calderdale Forum 50+ Preventative Measures: ambitions 2 • recognition of the part individuals already play in supporting their own health and well-being •  joined up management of resources across all sectors: health, leisure, sports, education, etc • Housing: the Forum has not yet had time to consider this important area • Information is available about ‘Age Friendly Communities’ projects in the UK and from the World Health Organisation + Every Voice Matters +
