  1. what was the blitz? Why did the Blitz start? Air raids and air raid shelters? blackouts

  2. The blitz The blitz was during world war 2 it was when the Nazi’s bombed major city’s for 57 consecutive nights. It destroyed shops ,houses ,civilians and their properties. it happened between September 1940 and May 1941. It was a very important part of the Second World War.

  3. why the blitz started The Blitz started because the Nazi’s where getting worried that they wouldn't win the war so they started to bomb London and other cities they destroyed homes ,civilians and their possessions.

  4. Air raids and air raid shelters Air raids where when the enemy planes dropped bombs on cities an air raid siren would sound when the enemy planes where approaching Air raid shelters where also known as Anderson shelters. when the air raid siren was sounded people would have to go into their Air raid shelters to protect them selves from the the bombes.

  5. blackouts Blackouts where when the citizens had to switch of all their lights so the Germans could not see where to bomb. A clock would be set to tell people what time the blackout would happen.

  6. Barrage balloons Barrage balloons where ballons made with light gas they where there to force the German planes to fly higher so the bombs were less accurate

  7. Arp wardens Arp wardens were men and women who made sure when the siren went off everybody went into their air raid shelter. They also cleared up dead bodies, rubble and debris.

  8. V1&v2 flying bombs/doodle bugs The v1 arrived in 1944 and was the most technological advanced bomb Britain had ever faced. It was the first bomb not to have a pilot. The v2 was painted in red & white checkers to see if it was spinning in flight .it flu faster than the speed of sound Hitler used forced labour to build the v2.

  9. evacuation Evacuation was when children where sent to the country side or another country with a host family they where sent there by train. Winston Churchill told parents they had to send their children away so they didn't get killed.

  10. glossary • The Nazis where a group of mps who where led by Adolf Hitler who wanted lots of power and to rule the world.
