  5. 2007-2008 Strategic Objectives • Facilitate effective communication between FHIMA, regional leadership and our members.  • Create an environment that identifies recruits, prepares and supports leaders within the organization. • Facilitate the employment of new graduates from HIM programs at the baccalaureate and associate degree levels, and coding programs at the pre-degree level. • To be recognized by Florida State Senators and Representatives as the leading authority on legislative issues affecting health information management in our state. • Form professional alliances with other healthcare related organizations.

  6. Objective #1:  Facilitate effective communication between FHIMA, regional leadership and our members.  • Launch new FHIMA Website • Hold bimonthly conference calls for regional Presidents and President-Elects.   • Conduct a communication needs assessment.  • The FHIMA President will host a monthly chat session using the chat function in the Florida CoP.  • Send monthly e-Alerts to members regarding FHIMA activities.  • Present FHIMA Update at regional meetings and via a Webinar accessible to all members for free and offer CE’s for attending. 

  7. Objective #2: Create an environment that identifies recruits, prepares and supports leaders within the organization. • Provide a formal orientation to all incoming Board members, Committee Chairs and Regional Presidents. • Establish a Leadership Mentoring Program. • Utilize website to recruit new leaders on an ongoing basis. • Develop tools and programs to assist regional leaders in their roles. • Create a Leadership Manual that defines leadership expectations and characteristics as well as how to effectively conduct business within a regional association.

Objective #3: Facilitate the employment of new graduates from HIM programs at the baccalaureate and associate degree levels, and coding programs at the pre-degree level. • Develop a mentoring program for students and new graduates. • Increase the number of partnerships between Florida HIM programs and healthcare facilities/systems in Florida. • Utilize Coding Roundtable information as a means of communicating “hot topics” to all Florida HIM and Coding Programs.

Objective #4: To be recognized by Florida State Senators and Representatives as the leading authority on legislative issues affecting health information management in our state. • FHIMA Advocacy Liaison will continually monitor legislative activities and issues affecting HIM. • Establish relationships with state officials at the grassroots level. • Advocacy 2 + 2 Toolkit • Voter Voice • Hill Day 2008

  10. Objective #5: Form professional alliances with other healthcare related organizations. • Introduce FHIMA to healthcare related organizations such as AHDI, HIMSS, MGMA, and AAPC. • Recruit new members to FHIMA through these organizations. • Exchange speakers for conferences.

Bridging the Gap Taskforce Chairperson - Anita Doupnik & Marjorie McNeil Board Liaison - Stacie Buck • 4 Subgroups • Mentoring (Barbara Bermudez) • Pilot Mentorship Program to begin January 1, 2008 • 6 HIM Programs participating; 20 mentors • Internship Opportunities (Sandra McDonald) • Letter to increase partnerships with health care facilities in Florida mailed to all Florida HIM Directors • Internship Approval (Lisa Libby) • 2008 Annual Convention – Best Practices for obtaining administrative approval and implementing an internship program • Coding Roundtable (Julia Steff ) • Identified community colleges will host a coding roundtable. • Student assignments being developed to integrate coding roundtable information into the curriculum.

  27. AHIMA HOD 2007: Vision 2016 • Key Priorities • Transformation of HIM to a graduate level profession by 2016 • Realign the HIM associate degree with workforce needs by 2016 • Prepare an effective qualified pool of HIM faculty by 2016

AHIMA HOD 2007: Accreditation & Certification Governance • Consider required steps to increase the value of CAHIIM accreditation through third party quality recognition and accountability by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). • Begin the discussion on Master’s accreditation standards • Consider the value of third party recognition of the certification program. • Discuss ways to benefit from increased input of internal and external stakeholders on HIM higher education and workforce training. • Discuss ways to benefit from increased input of internal and external stakeholders in the credentialing process. • Determine what is needed for the HOD to move forward.

AHIMA HOD 2007: Accreditation & Certification Governance • Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Accreditation • CHEA Eligibility: • “Demonstrates independence from any parent entity or sponsoring entity, for the conduct of accreditation activities and determination of accreditation status.”

AHIMA HOD 2007: Accreditation & Certification Governance • CHEA Accreditation would require an AHIMA Bylaws change • AHIMA to develop talking points • Goal is to hold vote by Summer 2008 • Pursue ANSI Accreditation for Certification once completed • Similar requirements to CHEA – “independence”

ACE members may: • Participate in regional Health Information Exchange activities • Lead data quality improvement efforts in their organizations • Speak at state or national HIM conferences • Influence the EHR discussions in their organizations • Contribute to the design of next generation applications for • e-HIM® • Collaborate to advance HIM practice in their communities • Mentor students and new professionals launching them into a great career
