  3. ADB’s Sustainable Transport Initiative (STI) (2010) • inclusive economic growth • environmentally sustainable growth • regional integration Sustainable Transport = developing transport systems that are accessible, safe, environmentally-friendly, and affordable

  4. STI Focus Areas • Inclusion of sustainability in existing operations – asset management, innovative finance, PPP • Scaling-up urban transport – scale-up overall operations, promote mass transit projects such as BRT and rail MRT • Integration of climate change – projects for mode shifting and distance shortening • Improving cross-border transport and logistics – more effective transport and trade facilitation • Supporting road safety and social sustainability – increase operations, strengthen approach, and partner with road safety organizations and social development institutions • Emerging areas – policy and transport plans, TDM, ITS, vehicle/engine/fuel technologies

  5. Road Safety Action Plan (2012) Impact Sustainable, effective, and cost-efficient improvement of road safety in the DMCs. Outcome Improved ADB road safety capacity and expanded portfolio of projects to support road safety improvement in DMCs.

Action Plan: Key Areas ADB OPERATIONS A: Strengthen internal road safety capacity B: Develop and adapt procedures, guidelines, and related tools to incorporate safety at each stage of the ADB project cycle C: Identify opportunities for improving road safety in DMCs D: Strengthen implementation of road safety components E: Establish pipelines of stand-alone road safety projects

  7. Action Plan: Key Areas COORDINATION AND PARTNERSHIP F: Work with MDBs, donors, and UN agencies in delivering UN Decade of Action G: Mobilize international organizations as partners for road safety in Asia and the Pacific
