  2. About QR-Codes QR-Codes are two dimensional barcode (datamatrix) that is designed to have it's contents decoded at a high speed. QR- codes first hit mainstream when they were initially used for tracking parts by vehicle manufacturers. After a while, companies began to see the scope for where QR-Codes could be used elsewhere within the world. The most commercial use for QR-Codes is in the telecommunications industry where the mobile phone seems to be the biggest driver of their popularity. QR-Codes can be used to store all kids of data including such data such as a URL (Universal Resource Locator) or as most people know them; web addresses. This then allowed offline publications such as: Magazines, Papers, Business Cards, Buses, Signs, T-shirts, or basically any medium that can accept the print of a QR-Code to advertise their online product which would then direct the user to the medium. QR-Codes are capable of handling of sorts of data, including numbers, alphabetic characters, Kanji, Kana, Hiragana, symbols, binary, and control codes. QR-Codes have become more popular than the typical barcode as the typical barcode can only hold a maximum of 20 digits, whereas the QR-Code can hold up to 7,089 characters. This makes the use and diversity of QR-Codes much more appealing than their older counter part, the barcode. Page 2

  3. How QR-Codes Work? Take a mobile phone such as the iPhone; nearly ever mobile phone has a digital camera in today’s world. The camera, along with decoding software can be used to capture a picture of the QR-Code of which the QR-Code software decoder and then transform the data held with the QR-Code to a meaningful action for the mobile phone: Connect to a web address, Download a MP3, Dial a telephone number, Prompt your email client with a sender address, etc., Download AT&T Code Scanner Go to http://scan.mobi on your mobile device and download the AT&T Code Scanner To scan a code, open AT&T Code Scanner, and the scanning screen should open. On many phones, when the application identifies a mobile barcode, it will scan it without any interaction required by the user. On some devices, such as with BlackBerry, users need to scan a code, in the same way as you would take a picture on the device. Page 3

  4. Single-Action Orders Online Single-action orders independent of the client system. The customer captures a picture of the CheckTelQR-code and the QR-code data (e.g., order number, order total) is sent along with the customer’s mobile phone number to a server system, the server system combines the additional information (e.g., billing and shipping information) stored in association with the identifier (e.g., customer mobile phone number) to full-fill order. Buy with Jeroo. Page 4

  5. Single-Action Orders Offline (e.g., Mag) Single-action orders independent of the client system. The customer captures a picture of the CheckTel QR-code and the QR-code data (e.g., order number, order total) is sent along with the customer’s mobile phone number to a server system, the server system combines the additional information (e.g., billing and shipping information) stored in association with the identifier (e.g., customer mobile phone number) to full-fill order. 6. Single Action Orders How CheckTelQR-codes changes the landscape for single-action orders via the internet or Offline (e.g., paper). The QR-code data is sent to the server system along with the customer’s mobile phone number. Step 1. The customer captures a picture of a CheckTelQR-code using his/her mobile phone digital camera. Step 3. The customer receives a order confirmation text message. Step 2. When the server system receives a request from a customer, the server system combines the additional information (e.g., Billing and Shipping Information) stored in association with the identifier (e.g., customer mobile phone number) included in the request to fulfill a order. Capture a picture of the QR-code to view sample data sent to the server system. The customer will not be capable of viewing the QR-code data which solely contains order information (e.g., item number, order total). Page 6

  7. CheckTel CheckTel offers vendors the ability to place CheckTel QR-codes throughout the web, on magazines, billboards, TV, or basically any medium that can accept the print of a CheckTel QR-code. The customer simply scans the CheckTel QR-code using a mobile phone digital camera and the item is shipped next day to their home. The vendor is notified of the pending order. Since the mobile phone number identifies purchaser-specific financial information already stored at the server system, there is no need for such sensitive information to be transmitted via the Internet or any other communications medium. For merchants it would be desirable to minimize the sensitive information transmitted when placing an order. Customers who want to purchase items using CheckTel simply signs up for a CheckTel account. Customers have 90-minutes to cancel an order via Jeroo. Page 7
