Human Origins and the Development of Civilizations Packet • As we continue our study of human origins, development, migration and civilizations, you will complete this packet. • These are your notes for the section so keep it neat and organized! • Start by labeling the map! • Do not move ahead! Follow my directions.

  5. Discuss: What is a revolution? 8000BC-4000BC (Neolithic Age) Characterized by the end of the Ice Ages & appearance of grasslands. Shift from hunter-gatherers to producing their own food. Leads to the development of civilizations! Neolithic Revolution

  7. You are now going to learn more about the achievements during the Neolithic Revolution. Read pgs. 9-13 After you read, you will participate in a group reading comprehension activity so be prepared! Be ready to discuss! The Neolithic Revolution

  8. Group Discussion Activity….. What did you learn?!?? • In order to check for understanding and emphasize main points from the reading, you will now complete a group discussion activity (grps of 3!) • Each group will be given a set of six cards – each card has a main category with four corresponding questions. • To start, one group member will take the role of the “question master.” • The other two members will select a category and a question number 1-4. • The question master will ask the question to the pair. The pair will brainstorm, discuss and answer the question. • The question master should determine if this is correct, ask follow up questions, clarify, etc. (You are leading the discussion! Make it count!) • Then, rotate roles and complete the process over. • Each group member will be question master TWICE! • Each category can only be used ONCE! • Every group member needs to participate and stay on task. Be supportive and respectful of all answers. • The point of this is to review key concepts from the reading – what did you learn? Categories: • DEFINE • CLARIFICATION • SUMMARY • QUESTIONS • EXTENDING • PREDICTION

  15. The first sign of writing came from priests and were symbols, scribbles, or indentations. Later, the writing evolved into pictograms, useful for medical and legal purposes.

Neolithic Village Review • Now that you know all the characteristics and traits of the Neolithic Revolution, you are going to create your own Neolithic Village. • Must demonstrate the characteristics of a Neolithic Village. • Label the key components! • If you use symbols, you must include a key! • You will NOT be graded on artistic ability – you will be graded on your understanding of the Neolithic Revolution and advances made at the time.
