  3. Focus on communication rather than control. • Attend orientation and read parent handbook. • Try to be supportive. • Adjust expectations. • Expect changes. • Be positive. • Discuss changes to the home with your student. Suggestions For Helping Your Student Transition To College

  4. Allow freedom. • Share your experience while remembering theirs might be different. • Help educate your student. • Be patient. • Expect resistance to control. • Take relationships seriously. • Let your student make their own mistakes. • SMILE!
