  2. Daraja La Tumaini (Bridge of Hope) • A Network of pastors from small churches in the slums • Vision: to empower the small churches in order to preach the gospel, transform community and eradicate poverty • Working in 7 regions with over 120 pastors/churches.

  3. Socio-Economic Context • Poverty level is high in the country-over 50% live on less than a dollar a day. • The Slums: shanty structures, overcrowded, no social amenties • Corruption and mismanagement • Injustice and insecurity is rampamt • Low level of basic education • Marginalized communities; the Maasai

  5. Our priorities:Four main sectors of our programs

  6. Training; BereanSafari Institute gives skills to over 120 pastors

  7. Research & Business: • Conduct business surveys : relationship btw faith and business

  8. Education • Books for Mathare School :support 4 slum schools- books & training teachers

  9. Environmental Stewardship • Tree Nurseries: 17,000 seedlings planted this year from 4 farms

  10. Our Priorities • Training; gives skills to over 120 pastors • Research & Business: conduct surveys and inform business • Education:support 4 slum schools & books & training teachers • Environmental Care: four farms tree nurseries & planting

  11. Relevance of Hauge Model • The Poor; we seek to help the poor • Holistic approach: we engage both spiritual, social, & economic issues • Ethics: integrity, hard work, Stewardship, equality, responsibility • Fellowship of friends: helping each other, building a team

  12. Gaining from Research • A rare partnership;our work is informed by findings of scientific survey. • 3 year survey on relationship btw faith & business by Prof. Magne • Duty and calling orientation in business yields positive results

  13. Gaining from Research • We now tell our people: integrity, hard work are the key to success. • Refuting deceptions- prosperity gospel is bad for business • Credibility of our work

  14. My opinion • Holistic approach to life is very draining & progress is gradual • But we are committed to bringing hope to the poor. • A model to rally our work around is very helpful

  15. Conclusion • Hauge model could be closer to Africa than Norway today. • We are grateful for our partners in Norway led by Oistein Garcia de Presno and Prof. Magne • Celebrating ‘the little success’
