News from TL Meeting – May 7th SFT Group Meeting 24th June • New tri-partite agreement on radiation protection (CERN, CH,F) • replaces previous bilateral agreements • All incidents – make a significant event declaration • normally made within 48 hours of the incident • Contact either GLIMOS (experiments) or DSO (Mark Hatch) You are invited to: • Take note of the CERN guide for significant events • Notify any event witnessed by you and that could be significant to the DSO or GLIMOS + RP and host states HSE relations for further discussion and or action • Ask any question you may have on this subject • Invite all persons under your responsibility to do the same

  3. 5 yearly Review of financial/social conditions SFT Group Meeting 24th June • Management made its proposals of what to review • ensure organisation is competitive for recruiting new staff • international survey of salaries and conditions by collecting data : locally, int’l organisations • includes comparison of fellows stipends etc., subsistence allowances, as well as staff salaries • MARS will be reviewed • current system not motivating staff, too resource intensive • Various social conditions being reviewed (Diversity) • benefits offered to same-sex partnerships • support structures for new parents etc • spouse/partner employment prospects • Intended for implementation : Jan 1st 2016

Thefts SFT Group Meeting 24th June • An iMac was stolen from the 32/R-Cxx corridor • ~1 computer is being stolen each week @ CERN : 100k CHF/year • CERN no longer insures this sort of equipment • Lessons to be learnt: • lock office even if you step out for 5’ • take your portables home every evening • keep your valuables in a locked drawer • Kensington cables are of no help – thieves using cutters • I have reported the situation in the PH/TL meeting • I have asked for an appointment with CERN’s new Head of Security (Didier CONSTANT)

  5. Other news SFT Group Meeting 24th June • 3 (or more) white papers for HEP Software Foundation are being worked on • R.Mount (ATLAS), P.Spentzouris (FNAL?CMS), G. Quast (Germany) • will be circulated within the next 1-2 weeks • Springer interested in publishing a HEP Software journal (bi-monthly, quarterly?) • fits well with Foundation initiative • Springer is interested to produce a new book on Software Development in HEP that can serve as a basis for teaching university students • distributed devlopment, integration, testing, tools, parallelism • timescale Spring 2015 • SFT is asked to make a major contribution
