  8. Lymphatic System Lymphatic system is considered part of the circulatory system because it consists of moving fluid-lymph- which comes from blood and returns to the blood through lymphatic vessels.

  9. List Structures of Lymphatic System Lymph vessels Lymph Nodes Thymus Spleen Tonsils

  10. Comprehension Check How many “sets” of TONSILS are there? • 1 • 2 • 3 Pharyngeal (adenoids), palatine & lingual

  11. Comprehension Check A primary role of the lymph vessels is to: • Transport oxygen • Transport excess interstitial fluid back to general circulation • Transport blood and nutrients

  12. Comprehension Check How many lymphatic ducts are there? • 1 • 2 • 3 Right Lymphatic Duct and Thoracic Duct

  13. Comprehension Check A primary role of the lymph ducts is to: • Provide points of entry into blood vessels • Produce T cells for immunity • Remove pathogens

  14. Comprehension Check A primary role of the spleen is to: • Produce antibodies • Produce T cells for immunity • Remove pathogens from circulating blood

  15. Comprehension Check A primary role of the thymus is: • Produce antibodies • Produce T cells for immunity • Filter blood and lymph

  16. Comprehension Check A primary role of the lymph nodes is to: • Produce antibodies • Produce T cells for immunity • Filter lymph & destroy bacteria

  17. Comprehension Check A state of being protected from a disease. • immunization • immunity • Immune reaction

  18. Comprehension Check Disease-producing organisms. • pathogens • antigens • antibodies

  19. Comprehension Check Present on RBCs and can stimulate production of antibodies. • pathogens • antigens • antibodies

  20. Comprehension Check Defense function of the body that produces antibodies to destroy invading antigens. • Immune Reaction • Immunity • Hypersensitivity

  21. Comprehension Check An excessive reaction to a particular stimulus when the body’s immune system fails to protect itself against foreign material. • Immune Reaction • Immunity • Hypersensitivity
