organisational alignment for broad based bi delivery
Organisational Alignment for broad-based BI delivery
  • Organisational structures are evolving to satisfy demands to take BI to a broader audience.
  • Analyst recommendations suggest the establishment of a BI Competency Centre (‘BICC’)
    • BICCs in practice appear to include BI analysts and many virtual team members from business.

ECM Technology for BI Delivery
  • ECM tools are increasingly used as the platform for BI delivery. Initially this has taken the form of securing BI content and wrapping reporting and analytics in
  • In this video we look briefly at:
    • Examples of successful ideas emerging for BI delivery in the context of an organisation’s ECM tools.
    • Selected metrics for tracking BICC success in these sorts of delivery.
  • ECM capabilities mentioned are broadly supported by a variety of ECM platforms including SharePoint.

Can be leveraged to enhance BI delivery

bi in the ecm context examples
BI in the ECM context - examples
  • Consider adopting existing organisational ECM metadata standards for BI information :
    • Information security classification
    • Data Quality related metadata
      • Attach to reports, analytics, requests for reports
      • Move beyond assumption of perfect accuracy in all reporting
      • Particular useful in near real-time scenarios
  • Apply information policies to static BI content once delivered.

  • Track evolving complex measure and dimension term definitions in wikis.
  • Attach discussion, tagging and rating capabilities to more complex dashboards.
  • Manage requests to the BICC through the portal using workflow and forms; integrate request status feedback into the overall BI portal.
  • Specialised requirements may be met by mashing up BI & OLTP data (retrieved using business data connectivity)
bicc delivery metrics
BICC Delivery Metrics
  • Success measurement (BI about BI) often appears neglected in BICC delivery arrangements.
  • Use usage tracking & survey capabilities to understand consumption and demand and in particular to measure:
    • BI Delivery relevance
    • Levels of accuracy demanded (and delivered)
    • BICC workload & turnaround times
    • User ability to self-service
